THE FINAL STEP

Dave and Jill Williams complete the improvements of Bacchus, their Bessacarr E350, with a new interior.

If you've been reading MMM for a while, you will be fully aware of our ongoing project to make Bacchus, as our Bessacarr is dubbed, into our own motorhome. We've added lots of extra storage and shelves, and then some over a period of two years.

The next, and hopefully final job was the interior furnishings.

We had stayed the night at Regal Furnishings premises, equipped with electric hook-up and a water point, ready for an early start the next day. 'Wakey wakey' called our speaking alarm clock at 6am. The company starts work at 7:30am, and we had to be showered and breakfasted before that.

On the dot, the doors were opened and the old furnishings were being removed, ready to be reupholstered in our chosen fabric.

After being shown around and allowed to take photos, we caught a bus to the nearby small interesting town of Ilkeston. We had a light lunch and then returned to find the cab seats reinstated and by 3:45pm we were able to hit the road.

What a difference. Not only in appearance but a new found comfort. When recovering the seats, the new fabric is first bonded with a fine foam and interfacing to firm everything up.

The extra padding is very noticeable on the cab seats, with the seats enduring 50,000 miles over their eight-year life before we had the work done. Now they are like new.

Nothing was too much trouble for the efficient and very friendly staff, who seem to have caught their enthusiasm from Barry, the owner.

We have now finished all our modifications (see May 2006 and April 2008), and if you spot us, and Bacchus, on site anywhere just knock on the door and we will show you around.
