    4 Tips for Cooking in a Caravan

    Caravan and staycation season is almost fully underway, so what better way to make those final preparations than to make sure you can still cook your favourite meals in your home away from home? In this article, we’ll be giving you some tips for cooking safely in a caravan this holiday season.

     

    1. Plan your meals

    Meal planning before you go away is a great way to start your cooking venture in a caravan. Make sure you’re choosing dishes that can be cooked quickly and easily using the facilities you have. Also, think about food storage, as you want to be as hygienic as possible. For instance, if you don’t have a fridge, make sure to choose only dry ingredients. When it comes to cooking in a caravan, it all comes down to the planning. 

     

    2. Break out the BBQ

    A way of keeping your cooking safe and in the holiday spirit is to break open the barbecue. Whether you buy a disposable one or have brought one with you, barbecues are exceptionally versatile. Among burgers and sausages, you can also cook the following things on a barbecue: chicken, pizzas, wedges, skewers, vegetables, toasties and more. The world is your oyster when it comes to barbecuing food.

     

    3. Keep meals simple

    Simple meals mean simple cooking, and that’s something you want when it comes to cooking up meals in a caravan where facilities are somewhat limited. Ths can depend on the type of cooking equipment you have in your own caravan. Do you have an oven or a hob, or do you have both? It might be that you don’t have either of those things and you rely on a camping stove instead. The facilities you have on hand will dictate what you cook and how, but here are some simple meal ideas for you:

    • Baked potatoes
    • Stir fry
    • Pasta bakes
    • Slow-cooked meals 

     

    4. Make sure it’s well-ventilated at all times

    No matter where you’re cooking, you need to make sure that the room is well ventilated. This means opening vents and windows. Caravans usually have a small skylight on the roof that can also be opened. Some come equipped with fans to allow for extraction. Either way, when cooking in a caravan, open doors and windows when making meals in your caravan, motorhome or campervan.

      On Monday 1st July, we had our motorhome reupholstered in leather. Initially I was a bit anxious about the outlay, however I am so impressed!!
      It looks stunning. The workmanship is incredible. The cab seats are also so much more comfortable.

    • Thank you to Regal furnishing for coming to our help when an accident occurred-leaving a window ajar whilst motorhome under cover for the winter - resulting in a massive brown water stain on the condensation panel. We were unable to remove the stain , contacted Regal furnishings , arranged to visit them with the panel to choose a fabric to cover it. We were never going to find the original fabric as our van is over 20 years old , but is ( apart from this accident) looked after well and in very good order. The team at Regal helped to choose a suitable alternative which wouldn’t look out of place , covered the panel in less than 24 hours at a very reasonable price . So thankful and would like to recommend highly.
